Dear Readers:
Thank you so much for your support of my Straight to Gay project. I feel honored to have opened a dialogue about being a gay woman in America, that has connected with and touched so many people.
We are now a half-year into the project, and given recent events, this seems like a good time to put it on a temporary pause for the summer. The news of Roe being overturned is heartbreaking, and as I wrote in a recent story, could well be a harbinger for losing gay rights. In Justice Clarence Thomas’ opinion, he wrote the Supreme Court “should reconsider” not only Obergefell (gay marriage), but also Lawrence, which legalized same-sex intimacy. We must gear up ahead of midterms and fight back!
This summer I will also be working on the process of archiving The Weekly List collection at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School. The Weekly List project will help future generations understand the role that the uprise in authoritarianism played in where we find ourselves today.
Not to fret - Straight to Gay will return this fall. If you have a paid subscription, it will be paused until then.
I hope you all have a glorious summer, and lend a hand where you can in this fight. I might check in now and then if major events occur that relate to this project.
Yours truly,
Amy Siskind
A note about this summer...
Thank you, Amy! You do so much to keep everyone connected and heard. I am really saddened by the recent events and the possibility for other rights to be diminished, based on the current wave of judicial nonsense. I was devastated during the 2016 election, but working through that dark time, especially with your daily cataloging of events, has helped more voices emerge along the way.
Time to pause and focus on the fight!
Thank you, Amy, for all that you do politically. I have enjoyed the Straight to Gay blog, but understand the desperate need to focus on the mid-terms now. Head up, this fight is win-able.
